Mission:

Children’s Institute helps children in Los Angeles’s most challenged communities heal from the trauma of family and community violence, build the confidence and skills to break through the barriers of poverty, and grow up to lead healthy, productive lives.

What We Do:

CII is one of the oldest and largest social sector agencies in Southern California. This past year we served more than 27,000 children and families. We believe that the needs of vulnerable children and youth must be addressed holistically, and we offer a continuum of services so that families can access multiple supports within our organization. These include: evidence-based and trauma-informed clinical services, early childhood services including Early Head Start and Head Start, youth development programs, and family support services including Project FatherhoodSM.

Leading the Way in Professional Development

Along with parents and caregivers, the professionals who interact with children need specific skills and training in trauma-informed care, evidence-based clinical treatment, parenting and fatherhood programs. This year, CII trained more than 9,000 professionals throughout Los Angeles and across the country. We also nurture the next generation of clinicians through our graduate-level practicum programs for psychologists, marriage and family therapists and social workers.
